SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services

Have you ever found yourself daydreaming about the day when your creative flow is no longer constantly interrupted by mundane file management tasks and discrepancies? Well, you don’t have to dream anymore – you can get your head out of the clouds, and instead immerse your entire team in SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services!

SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services allows you to reclaim your innovative momentum by connecting SOLIDWORKS Desktop CAD to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, allowing you to collaborate and communicate with your team in real time.

As of July 1st, 2023, SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services is available with all new and upgraded SOLIDWORKS subscriptions.

What is SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services?

SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services is a bundle of cloud-connected capabilities that is now packaged with your SOLIDWORKS subscription. Just like SOLIDWORKS CAM and SOLIDWORKS Visualize, this bundle is available with any SOLIDWORKS license with an active subscription, Perpetual or Term. SOLIDWORKS Standard, Professional, and Premium all gain access to these capabilities! So what can you do with SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services?

  • Share a link to your designs that anyone can review directly in their web browser - no more need for 3rd party CAD viewer installations like eDrawings

  • Store your data in CAD-aware cloud storage - secure SOLIDWORKS cloud storage you can access anywhere and no more broken references

  • Control your revisions with integrated lifecycle management - no more lost time or re-work working on old SOLIDWORKS revisions

  • Track issues and ensure they are resolved prior to production - reduced error with higher quality output the first time

  • Implement change control to make sure changes are being tracked and properly approved prior to production - a higher level of control to prevent unintended changes in your SOLIDWORKS designs prior to production

All of these capabilities are available to anyone with SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services, however, not all teams need or even want higher-level change management tools. For this reason, the capabilities have been broken down into three main categories, Share & Markup, Store & Revise, and Manage & Control. There is a fit for teams of any size and each team can focus on what would benefit them the most!

Share & Markup

When project efficiency and seamlessness are top priorities, the urge to eliminate friction becomes inevitable. Eliminating friction means reducing the time-consuming back-and-forth associated with email threads, installed CAD viewers, and uncontrolled filesharing that typically comes with traditional design-sharing and collaboration tools. With SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services, minimizing the resistance to moving your design forward comes naturally.

SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services allows you to optimize your processes and amplify your workforce by collaborating with your team in real-time within a web browser-based environment.

With Cloud Services, you control access to your designs, and sharing data with anyone and everyone is as simple as sending a link. No more walking stakeholders through an eDrawing installation; rather, everything you need to share your designs is available right within a web browser! Markups such as notes and annotations can be added to the 3D model to communicate new design ideas, and feedback can be provided by leaving comments.

And the best part is, you never have to leave SOLIDWORKS!

Store & Revise

With SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services, you have access to CAD-aware online storage built with the intention of connecting your workforce and facilitating data-sharing across your teams. SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services provides you with the ability to securely save your data to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform – directly from within SOLIDWORKS.

It’s no surprise that even just a simple design change can have a significant impact on other parts, assemblies, and drawings; the capabilities of storing and revising in real-time ensure seamlessness across your projects and eliminate the risk of discrepancies. You can lock your model while your work is in progress so that your team is aware that it’s being modified, and you can easily manage revisions without the hassle of creating and sharing several different file versions. All that to say, the worries of inadvertently working on an outdated file or overwriting your team’s work are a thing of the past!

All in all, SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services provides everyone involved in any project with the ability to stay up-to-date while collaborating and working together, hassle-free!

Manage & Control

Managing your CAD data is no doubt a challenge in its own right, and along with managing data inevitably comes managing change. Changes come from everywhere, whether from your design team, the shop floor, or anywhere in between, so it’s extremely important that your entire team gets on –and stays on– the same page.

The manage and control capabilities included with SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services are built to facilitate design changes and issue management, and they provide you and your team with the transparency necessary to keep your operations moving smoothly. Issue management allows you to visualize any challenges identified by your team members through the use of product location tags to provide feedback on changes that need to be evaluated on existing designs. You can also add and view comments for immediate feedback.

Issues can be assigned to specific team members to prevent any rework from occurring, thus saving valuable time and resources. If necessary, issues can be transitioned into change actions, which provide design-change access to only the assigned user. Furthermore, all members involved in any project can review and sign off on design changes through approval templates.

Keep in mind: as design complexity increases, the demand for clear communication and effectively-coordinated design changes becomes inevitable. So, keep your entire team organized by taking advantage of SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services!
